Big
Brothers Big Sisters of Warren County matches boys and girls ages 6-17
with caring, professionally-screened adult volunteers. Volunteers serve
as friends, mentors and role models, helping children (who are primarily
from single-parent homes) gain greater self-confidence.
"Bigs" encourage "Littles" to
realize their potential and see themselves as having happy and successful
futures.
Bigs and Littles spend a couple of hours per week together, doing fun,
every-day activities like going fishing or skating, taking a bike ride,
baking cookies, hiking or seeing a movie. Volunteers set their own schedules and do activities
they and their Little Brother or Sister both enjoy. Children engaged
in this type of one-on-one mentoring relationship are proven to perform better
in school, feel better about themselves, and get along better with parents
and peers.
