Hackettstown Alliance for Drug Prevention

Since 1989 The Hackettstown Alliance for Drug Prevention has been addressing the challenge of substance abuse in Hackettstown area citizens of all ages. The Alliance is a volunteer committee with representation from Hackettstown Public Schools, St. Mary’s School, Hackettstown Community Hospital, Hackettstown Police Department, Hackettstown PTA, St. Mary’s Home School Association, Centenary College, the Hackettstown Area Chamber of Commerce and The Star Gazette. The committee selects substance abuse programs that will provide a broad-based prevention effort in our community.

Funded by the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse and the Town of Hackettstown, the Hackettstown Alliance remains part of a network of more than 500 Municipal Alliances throughout New Jersey, all providing drug prevention education in communities large and small throughout the state.

The Hackettstown Alliance for Drug Prevention sponsors all (A) or part (P) of the following programs:

  • Adult Medication Awareness Programs
  • B.A.B.E.S. (Beginning Alcohol Basic Education Series for 2nd Graders)
  • D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education for 5th Graders)
  • Project Graduation (a Graduation Night Celebration for High School Seniors)
  • Project Adventure (for High School Students)
  • Teen Night (for Grades 6-12)
  • T.I.G.S. (Teens In the Garden State, a peer leadership program)

Research shows that it'll take a broad-based effort involving students, parents, teachers, employers, and law enforcement to address this very complex and dangerous problem. The different parts of the community must all work together and independently toward a common goal. Programs alone won't do it.
