Procedures for Summons

Mandatory Court Appearance Required

If "Court Appearance Required" box is checked (located on the bottom left side of the complaint and summons in red ink) then this requires a mandatory court appearance. "YOU MUST APPEAR IN COURT" on the date and time indicated, even if you wish to plead "guilty".

Note: All motor vehicle vehicle accidents resulting in personal injury as well as handicapped parking violations are Mandatory Court Appearances.

Guilty Plea through Violations Bureau

If you have a payable traffic violation that does not require a Court appearance, you may pay the complaint and summons through the mail by sending a check or money order to the address listed on the front and back of the summons. You may also pay at the Violations Bureau during our business hours of Monday through Friday, 9:00am through 4:30pm prior to your payment due date which is the Notice to Appear date on the front of the summons.

If the fine is not listed on the back of the summons, please call the Court office for assistance.

Ticket Payments via the Internet

You may pay your traffic tickets online. You will need our court code, prefix and summons number (all found in the upper left hand corner) and the license plate number. Once you have accessed our website, you will be also be able to view any other summons associated with that license plate anywhere in the State of New Jersey, make traffic time payments, restore your license if it has been suspended for nonpayment of a payable summons and view the NJ Point System. You will need a credit card with a MasterCard or Visa logo.

To Enter a Not Guilty Plea

If you intend to plea Not Guilty to the offense charged in this complaint and summons and thus have a Trial, you must notify the Court Administrator (908-852-0688) of your intention at least seven (7) days prior to the court date listed on the bottom of your summons.

If you fail to notify the Court Administrator of your intentions, it may be necessary for you to make two (2) Court appearances.
