School Resource Officers (SRO's)
The Hackettstown Police Department assigns full-time School Resource Officers (SROs) to Hackettstown High School and Hackettstown Middle School as part of a comprehensive school security plan. These SROs work to enhance school safety and build positive relationships withing the Hackettstown School District.
Key details about the SROs and their role:
» Prescence in schools: SROs are assigned to both Hackettstown High School and Hackettstown Middle School. Mark Ramos and Matthew Frauen are both retired law enforcement officers.
» Training and Responsibilities: SROs undergo rigorous and ongoing training in areas like active shooter response, de-escalation techniques, cyberbullying prevention, and various safety protocols like FERPA and suicide prevention.
» Part of a larger Security Framework: The SROs are a component of the broader security measures implemented by the Hackettstown School District.
D.A.R.E. Program
D.A.R.E. Program: Officer Frauen, who is a certified SRO and the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program Director, DARE is a drug abuse prevention education program intended to give middle school children skills to resist peer pressure to use tobacco, drugs, and alcohol. The program teaches a formal curriculum to students in the fifth grade classrooms. This is to prepare the students to resist negative peer pressure in middle school and high school.
